We have been told for years that men think about sex every seven seconds – that’s 8 times a minute or about 8,000 times a day! Sounds extreme?  Consider this; According to Dr. Louann Brizendine a neuropsychiatrist and  author of "The Female Brain," in her book she writes that men think about sex every 52 seconds, while women be likely to to think of it just once a day.


The Kinsey Institutes (The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction, Inc.) reports "54% of men think about sex every day or several times a day, 43% a few times per month or a few times per week, and 4% less than once a month."  


A more recent study reported in January 2012 by Ohio State University in the Journal of Sex Research revealed that the median value for the number of times men thought about sex was 19 times a day versus 10 times a day for women. It was noted that among the individual men in the study, thoughts of sex each day ranged between one and 388, while for the women it was between one and 140.

So with this entire maxim about male sexual motivation women are stunned if he comes up with some lame excuse like he has a “headache” and not in the mood for sex. Naturally, most women will blame themselves that they are too fat or their boobs too small, yet the truth has little to do with a guy’s lack of libido.  Here are 8- reasons why men lose their sex drive:


  1. Aging. Harsh, but true. According to Dennis Sugrue, Ph.D., clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School, for men in their 40-50’s erections may no longer be automatic. Bottom Line: Get him “thinking” about sex, to increase his mood.

  2. Performance Issues.  Although medications or illness may be some causes, generally it may boil down to emotional expectations. Sexual function requires both the body and the mind. However, 80% of men taking meds such as SSRIs, Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft don’t have orgasms. Other antidepressants including Effexor, Wellbutrin and Cymbalta among them – may have less of a libido-busting effect.

  3. Smoking. It is true, smoking cuts blood circulation ehich can not only lead to heart didease but impotence.

  4. Belly Fat. Abdominal fat (different from other body fat) contains an enzyme termed aromatase that converts testosterone (male sex hormone) into estrogen. Less testosterone means a lower sex drive.

  5. Penis Thermometer Of Men’s Health.  Erections require multiple body systems to function properly, so sexual dysfunction may be an early warning system of major medical problems such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart attack and stroke.

  6. Stress.  Stress-related behaviors like overeating, smoking, drinking and using prescription drugs produce fatigue and chip away at libido.

  7. Sleep Deprived. Many men suffering from sleep apnea also have erectile problems. Lack of sleep makes them feel run down and they just don’t have the energy for sex.

  8. Relationship Worries. A messy romance, divorce or other romance fallout may hinder a guy’s ability to perform.
